I must admit that I have never seen the Goonies, I know. BUT, Cannon Beach, Oregon is simply stunning! It is about an hour and half drive through the mountains to get there. It is a small picturesque beach town. Couple pubs, a coffee house of course and lots of beach front properties.
Even though it was barely 60 and partly cloudy it didn't feel that bad. In fact the sand was warm, the water was not. Haystack rock sits pretty close to the shore during the low tide. It happened to be low tide when we went and luckily for us we got to see some living tide pools. There were small crabs, and sea urchins of pink and green.
I think my favorite thing about this coastal town was that while you stand on the beach you can still see the mountains covered in the fur trees. It was the most interesting beach atmosphere. I am so used to tropical beaches so seeing this was something to be appreciated.
Special note: Stop at Camp 18 along highway 26 for a cool vintage logging experience. Those pics are towards the end and there is a special model shown :)
