Tall Trees and Shining Seas

Hi! As most of you know my husband has moved across the country for work (Go Raiders) to Hazy Alameda, CA. This means we have gotten a chance to explore the surrounding area one quick getaway at a time!

I am not sure why I have never thought of the Bay area as a place to explore but I have been missing out. In this post I will go over a quick overnight trip and honestly it could even be a day trip across the bay from Alameda to Sausalito and Muir Woods.

Muir Woods:

-National Park- Getting my money's worth of that park pass baby!

-You MUST reserve a parking spot if you want to drive and park in the park. However, there is a shuttle, but I opted to drive.

-It is a very windy. hairpin turn of a drive to get to the park and you WILL lose cell service as you get to closer to the park.

-Once you arrive it is a quick walk into the park. You cannot even fathom the height of these trees. As a kid, we lived in the small town of Atwater, CA, where there used to be an Air Base and I vaguely remember coming to this forest and it still astounded me.

Currently, they are in the process of "renovating" the forest habitat and working to bring salmon back to the river that flows through it. The path through the main part of the park is well maintained and an easy walk.

There are options for an off the beaten path hikes but we opted to keep is casual and just walked to main loop.

The thing that was most wonderful was the smell. It smelled like fresh pine and cool air.

Once we left the park, we made our way down to Sausalito. The town is about 20 minutes away.

Where we stayed: The Gables Inn

10/10 recommend this place! It is more like a Bed & Breakfast than a hotel. Check in was easy and the receptionist was super friendly.

The property was well maintained, along with our room. It had a cozy vibe. There is a wine and cheese reception included in your stay from 5:30pm to 7PM, huge benefit!

Breakfast is also included and was a mix of yogurt, fresh fruit, pastries and bagels. Fresh Coffee, tea and juice was also available.

Where we ate:

Venice Pizzeria- Delicious thin crust pizza!

The Trident- We went here for a more romantic dinner. It is right on the water and you can sit outside overlooking the bay and you can see San Fran on a clear night. The sunset makes the sky the most beautiful cotton candy pink.

Lappert's Ice Cream- Get the Cookie Monster flavor. It's bright blue and full of cookie dough and Oreo chunks. YUM!

The downtown area of Sausalito is truly charming, keep an eye out on their town calendar, we just missed the art fest due to my husband having to work, but I can only imagine how lovely it would be. The next time we go, I want to go kayaking in the bay and take some more time to sight see the more historic parts of town, like the house boats and wander up to Golden Gate park, which is a short drive away.
